New CGM Shampoo

Molly Weatherford

Two years ago, I made one of the best decisions of my life. Ever since I started the “Curly Girl Method” which was developed by Lorraine Massey (you can find her amazingly informative book here), I’ve been shocked by how much better my natural hair continues to look and feel. I’ve included a picture that compares the first day I started the Method to six weeks into the process. My point: it doesn’t take long, people!

One the most complicated parts of the Method is finding products that are curly hair-friendly: they can’t have parabens or silicones. Once you learn how to identify these ingredients, the next obstacle is finding products without either since almost every hair product on the market has them.

About two weeks ago, I was looking for a new shampoo and stumbled across a new product line from SheaMoisture. I’ve heard good things about the brand but never actually tried out any of the products for myself. They had a giant display for a new line called Lotus and Chamomile, and after seeing that none of the products had sulfates or silicones, I picked up the shampoo.

Let me tell you, I wish I had tried this shampoo sooner. Not only does it smell amazing (fresh and aquatic), it also gives my curls great definition! My hair feels so clean after I use it because of the citrus and green tea which are supposed to “create a cooling sensation”, according to the packaging. The lotus and chamomile ingredients are supposed to have a similar effect along with “moisturizing and strengthening” hair. I think it would take a while to tell whether my hair is strengthened by it, but I could tell immediately that my hair is more moisturized.

If you’re looking for some CGM approved products, I’d give this shampoo a try!
